One day, shortly before the baby was due, I was having tomato ketchup and rice for breakfast when Florence bust in again! I nearly jumped out of my seat, but she instead headed straight for Amar, completely ignoring me. Like me, he was so startled by her sudden appearance that I think he temporarily forgot I was in the room as well, allowing me (and probably the baby and half the town given the volume) to overhear. I gathered from the heated exchange between them that there'd been a bit of history between them and that Florence was particularly hurt and upset by it.
But there was no time for me to think this over, as, less than a week later, I was rushed to hospital. After what seemed like hours of excruciating pain, I finally gave birth my first child - a boy! However, he was two and a half weeks early and had to be kept in for a little while before I could take him home. Thankfully it wasn't too long before the doctors decided I could take Fionn home!
I hadn't forgotten about the argument between Amar and Florence though, so I decided to confront him and get to the bottom of it. He said that he'd met Florence years ago and that they went out on a few dates together, but that was as far as it had gone in his view – but obviously this wasn't the way Florence had seen it.
Although I was relieved that Amar had confirmed Florence as a lonely old prune cooped up with her flowers that I though she was, a few niggling doubts still lingered on in the back of my mind, like if it was 'years ago', why had Florence dug the whole affair up again? However, I mustn’t let myself get hung up on them – I should be concentrating on making sure that Fionn gets the best possible chance in life. Now where is the number for the local school again?
Now, I've never thought of myself as superstitious - I don't have time for all that mumbo-jumbo - but the house was burgled again, just a couple of weeks after the incident with Florence. I really do hope it isn't a bad omen – I mean the police did manage to catch the scum this time after all!

But one thing's for sure, even if I do still have my doubts about Amar's past - he's being a great dad to Fionn, a lot better than I'd've expected him to have been anyway!
